Strange Star Discoveries.

There are many ways that stars/celebrities are discovered. Although there are different ways, they are always discovered by talent scouts. Stars have been discovered from being on a reality TV show to being a waitress at a bar. These are a few examples of weird or strange ways that stars have been discovered.

1.) Janet Leah's father worked at a resort and her picture was on his desk. A talent scout saw it and showed it to his office. He said that she had a smile that made her the most interesting face he'd seen in years.

2.) Pamela Anderson  was at a football game when she was broadcast on the jumbo tron and people loved her so, her photographer boyfriend made an add with her face on it and it was really popular.

3.) Lana Turner skipped class and went to a cafe where she was spotted by a talent scout. The scout took her picture and referred to an acting and agent.

4.) Natalie Portman was an 11 year old at a pizzeria. A talent scout saw her and she signed eventually a modeling contract. After a few years of modeling, she became an actress.

These examples show that you don't always have to be on a TV show or audition for something to become famous or a celebrity. Do you ever wonder what would have happened to some of the things these people took part of if they weren't where they were when they were discovered? Would they just be normal people, watching the lives of celebrities from afar? I think that everything would be different. But, I believe that fate wanted these people to be discovered, do you? Or, do you think it was just luck that they were discovered? All of these people have talent and have worked to stay at the top of the social pyramid. Think about these questions. Who knows, maybe you'll be drinking a cup of Starbucks coffee and you'll be asked to be an actor or actress?

Celebs vs. Paps.

As you probably know, the term "paparazzi" comes from the name of the character in the movie "La Dolce Vida" and the character was called "Paparazzo" (his nickname). The term "Paparazzo" means mosquito. The character was nicknamed this because he had a tendency to fidget and was very annoying, much like a mosquito. He was a photographer and took photos of celebrities in this movie so, people decided, at some point, that people who took photos of celebrities and/or famous people would be called "Paparazzo"(singular), "Paparazzi" (plural). Now, these people greatly annoy celebrities while trying to get a good photo. So, this has caused many instanced where celebrities have done some sort of act that was not very kind towards the paparazzi. These are some examples of what I am talking about:

1.) Justin Bieber had a "scuffle" with a paparazzo which ended with an ambulance being called to treat the paparazzo and Justin losing his shoe because the paparazzo wouldn't move to let him get to his car.

2.) Adam Lambert straddle-attacked a paparazzo when he was at the beach, presumably because he was wearing a silly straw hat and if anyone saw a photo of him wearing it, his reputation would be ruined.

3.) Jude Law slapped a female paparazzo across the face leaving a London restaurant. We don't know if it was un purpose, but many believe that it was.

4.) Nicole Richie had a two year restraining order on two paparazzi who were stalking her. When the two years were done, they resumed stalking her and she threw open water bottles at them.

5.) At an airport, Kanye West and his assistant smashed a paparazzo's camera and demanded a video from another. Kanye was sentenced to some community service.

6.) In 2006, Hugh Grant threw a can of baked beans at a paparazzo. Then, in 2009, he greeted one paparazzo by kicking him in the groin.

7.) Miley Cyrus hit a paparazzi in the past when she saw him trying to get a video of her working out at the gym.

8.) Chris Martin once waited for a paparazzo who was following him to take a break, then smashed the windows and slashed the tires of his car.

9.) Sienna Miller hit a paparazzo in the head with her purse at an airport after she was feeling harassed.

10.) Couple at the time, Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake lashed out at paparazzi who were waiting outside of their home.

These are all examples of when celebrities have lashed out against paparazzi. Do you think that they have a right to? My opinion is that sometimes, these people do have the right to lash  out, but it depends on the reason and hoe they do it. You may have a different opinion, but, remember, these are people too. Imagine what you would do in their position. Would you accept that invasion of privacy? Would you act as some of these celebrities have? This is something for you to think about every time you see or hear about these things happening.

Is YouTube taking over?

YouTube is the new "it" social media. Anyone can post a video and you can find anything you want to watch. You can also listen to music on YouTube. There are over 1 billion unique people who go on YouTube each month. That's more than three times the population of Canada. There are over 6 billion hours of video watched each month-that's nearly 1 hour watched by everyone in the world. About 100 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute and 80%  of YouTube traffic comes from outside the united States. This form will take over because YouTube has it's own celebrities. They're called "youtubers" and they are people who post videos. People watch these videos and then you are able to recognize these people on the street. I believe that YouTube will become the most used form of social media within the next few years. What do you think?

The Normalization of Celebrity.

Celebrities seem as if they're in their own world. Their own perfect world. Until... you read/watch celebrity gossip. There are people who's lives are devoted to writing, finding and even creating celebrity gossip to sell to readers and watchers who are interested in the private lives of the esteemed celebs. People mainly read or watch this kind of thing because they want a piece of a celebrity they idolize or they want to feel, somewhat, closer to the celebrities. This is what people call "The Normalization of Celebrity". It is called this because it is essentially showing how the lives of these celebrities are like ours. This is what people do because it shows that although celebrities seem as if they are living in their own perfect world, their lives still have ups and downs. In the past, people who hired these celebrities didn't want the lives of the celebrities to be known. They wanted to create a perfect image that makes money and keep it intact. When the public started writing letters asking about the lives of celebrities, the people realized that they could make even more money if the private lives of the celebrities was accessible by the public. That is where all of this normalization started. Before, the public only wanted to know what the celebrities did. Now, we still want to know what they do but we also want to find the flaws in their lives and compare their lives to our own. This is basically what "The Normalization of Celebrity" is.

These are some gossip examples. Nobody knows if these are true or not but they still read the articles because they want the information. This is how we "Normalize Celebrities".

Miley Cyrus: Role Model?

Everyone in this day and age know who Miley Cyrus is. She used to be Hannah Montana on a Disney TV show and she used to be a pop sensation and idol to younger children. Now, she is no longer with Disney, she does not have a TV show, she sings pop for teens. She dresses, acts and looks different. Most people don't consider her a good role model, this blog is both opinions on whether or not Miley Cyrus is a role model.

Miley Cyrus isn't a good role model for many reasons. Firstly, she wears barely any clothing to her concerts, music videos and in public. If she is a role model, she is saying that dressing like a slut is OK. Is it really? Children may become sluts because they dress like one and might think that if they dress the part, they should play the part. Secondly, she dances incredibly inappropriately. At the VMA's, she was twerking, grinding on Robin Thicke and she even touched his groin and her groin with a foam finger, like the ones you would wear to a hockey game. She is showing that it is OK to be suggestive towards others when you dance, it is OK to touch others private areas if you are dancing, dancing suggestively with/on someone over a decade older than you is OK. Children may think, when they're older, that they can dance so innapropriatley is something "cool" and "in style" and they will be dancing like that at a young age because of how impressionable they are.  Lastly, Miley Cyrus drinks, smokes and does drugs. Children as they grow up will see her doing this and think "she is pretty and cool as well as in style. To be like her or be cool, I need to drink, smoke or do drugs, possibly all of them". That isn't a good thing. Although many other celebrities do these things, she does stunts that get her noticed and she is very focused on and, sometimes looked up to. She knows this and should either not do these things or make sure she isn't seen doing these things. We know some children look up to her. We know because they used to look up to Hannah Montana and now that Hannah Montana doesn't exist, Miley Cyrus is the closest thing to her they have to look up to because. originally, she was Hannah Montana.

Is this appropriate? Good role model behavior?

Do you want children to do this? Role model behavior?

Miley Cyrus is a good role model in some aspects. Firstly, she is confident with her body. She is able to show off her body and is confident in her own skin. She isn't ashamed of anything about her body and shows this. If children look up to her, they will understand that and, because they are impressionable, they will attempt or try to be confident and they will be more confident in their own skin. Because of this, they will have a higher level of self-esteem. Also, Miley Cyrus doesn't listen to haters or bullies. People continuously criticize her choice on clothing and attitude. She doesn't try and change who she is just because people don't like the way she is. Children who idolize her won't listen to bullies and they'll be themselves, all because Miley Cyrus does that and she is their idol. Lastly, Miley Cyrus is a confident young woman. She does what she wants and lives her life to the fullest. Children will attempt to be like her and will have better lives because of it. She has a charity and does charity work, children will do the same thing as her if they idolize her. This helps make the world a better place.

Is this role model behavior? Is helping children a good thing?

Smiling is a good thing. Is this the face of a role model?

Miley Cyrus can either be an amazing role model or a horrific one. It all depends on your opinion. Do you think she's a good role model, or not?

Twilight Fans.

These are two examples of overly obsessed Twilight fans.

1.) Someone said they didn't like the Twilight books to a fan and then the fan and her friends cornered her and beat her. One girl was using a bat.

2.) Fan is marrying a cardboard cut out of "Edward Cullen".

The first example is not a very pleasant thing. Someone voiced their opinion on a book and they think it's OK to corner her and beat her? This is a very serious issue. These Twilight fans take being a supporter and a fan to a whole new level. If these are only some examples, what else do you think cold be happening? How many people will waste their lives because of their obsession? How many anti-Twilight fans will be hurt?
